Pre-hung or slab, chosen on purpose
A slab reuses a sound jamb and costs less. A pre-hung unit replaces a racked frame. We pick that on the walkthrough, not from a catalog photo.
Casing is part of the room
New doors that keep old broken casing still look unfinished. Trim profile, caulk, and paint are listed so the opening matches the hall.
Interior means interior
Garage doors and weather-exposed entries are different products and different licenses. We will not fold them into an interior-door quote.
Where the number comes from.
- Slab vs. pre-hung: a slab door reuses the existing jamb (cheaper); a pre-hung swap means setting a new frame, shimming plumb, and re-casing
- Door count and whether you're matching existing panel style, swing direction, and hinge/bore locations across the house
- Rough-opening condition: out-of-square framing, racked jambs, or settled openings add shimming and reveal correction
- Hardware grade and prep: passage vs. privacy vs. keyed locksets, plus any new bore/mortise work for handles and hinges
- Casing and trim profile: matching existing millwork, mitered returns, and paint-grade vs. stain-grade finishing
- Removal and disposal of old doors, plus any drywall touch-up around a re-cased opening

We check width, height, swing, hinge handedness, and whether the jamb is reusable. Out-of-square openings are noted before anyone orders a unit.

Written per-door scope
Each opening is slab or pre-hung, with hardware, casing, and paint called out. You approve that list before we pull doors.

Hang and fit
Old interior doors come out. New units are set plumb and square, hardware is fit, and the latch is tuned to the strike.

Case and finish
Casing goes on to the listed profile. Caulk and paint, when in scope, close the opening into the room.

Swing every door
We walk each opening with you: swing, latch, reveal, and paint. Leftovers go on a short punch list.
- Timeline
- A single interior door is often a few hours once the unit is on site. A set of bedrooms can be a day of hanging plus paint dry time if finish is included. Special-order slabs add wait time before the visit. Typical, not a dated promise.
- Permits
- Replacing an interior door in an existing opening is typically finish work and does not, by itself, need a building permit. Cutting a new opening, changing an egress path, or working on a weather-exposed entry is a different project and may need a permit and another contractor. Confirm the address with the city if the plan is more than a swap.

Do you install garage doors?
No. Garage doors and openers are referred to a garage-door specialist. Our door work is interior doors, jambs, casing, and hardware.
Do you install weather-exposed entry doors?
No. Weather-exposed entry and patio units sit in the building envelope and are referred to a licensed contractor who does that work. Interior doors are in scope.
How much does interior door installation cost?
Plan about $200–$600 per interior opening on our board, with 2026 Utah task lists near $245–$395 for a typical hang. Pre-hung versus slab, casing, and paint move the number. A per-door quote after measuring is the price.
Should I use a pre-hung door or a slab?
Use a slab when the existing jamb is sound and square. Use a pre-hung unit when the frame is racked or damaged. We choose that at the opening, not from a product page.
Can you fix a door that sticks or will not latch?
Yes, when the cause is hinge screws, strike alignment, paint buildup, or a slightly out-of-plumb interior jamb. A failed slab or a destroyed frame is a replace, not a tune.
Do you paint the new interior door?
Yes, when paint is on the per-door scope. A primed unit left raw will not match the room. Stain-grade work is listed separately.
Can you cut a new door opening in a wall?
Not if the wall is load-bearing, and not as a casual add-on. New openings that change bearing are referred to a licensed contractor. We hang doors in existing interior openings.
Do interior door swaps need a permit?
Usually no, when you are replacing a unit in an existing interior opening. A new opening or an egress change is a different question for the city.
