We measure the wall or ceiling, confirm the TV, fireplace and lighting you want, and put the sizes on the written quote, so the finished feature fits the room it is in.
Lines that read straight
Long reveals, LED channels and ceiling steps show every wave. Corners are set square and the field gets a Level 5 skim where the light hits it.
One schedule with the electrician
Power, low-voltage and lighting are roughed in by a licensed electrician before the board closes, so nothing gets cut back open later.
Media and TV walls
A media wall moves the TV into the wall instead of hanging it on one. The frame is built out from the existing wall, the TV sits in a recessed niche or flush with the face, and side niches take a soundbar, a console or a few things you want to show. Everything is boarded, taped and finished smooth, so the wall reads as one piece. Power and low-voltage are run by a licensed electrician before the board goes on. If you also want the room painted, that is interior painting on the same schedule.
Fireplace feature walls
A linear electric fireplace set into a framed wall, with the TV above it or beside it, suits the tall great rooms in many newer Wasatch Front homes. We frame the opening to the insert maker’s specifications, carry the wall up to the ceiling if the room calls for it, and finish the face so the seams disappear. The circuit is a licensed electrician’s job, and a gas unit goes to a licensed gas fitter.
Tray, coffered and lit ceilings
Stepped trays, coffers, cove channels and recessed LED lines all depend on straight framing and a finish that holds up under light from the side. We build the steps and channels in drywall, set every corner square and finish the field to Level 5 where the light rakes it. The fixtures and drivers are wired by a licensed electrician. For patches, texture and new board elsewhere in the house, see drywall repair and installation.
Where the number comes from.
- Size of the wall or ceiling, and whether the feature runs floor to ceiling or up a two-story wall that needs staging.
- Niches, steps and returns: every recessed niche, tray step or coffer adds framing, corners and finishing time.
- Finish level: long reveals and LED channels usually need a Level 5 skim so the light does not show the seams.
- Lighting and power the licensed electrician has to run: LED channels, drivers, TV outlets, low-voltage and a fireplace circuit.
- The fireplace insert or TV mount you choose, because the opening is framed to the maker's specifications.
- Paint: one color or several, and whether the rest of the room is painted on the same schedule.
Licensed trades, one schedule
A feature wall or a lit ceiling touches more than drywall. We line up the licensed trades so the board closes once:
- Outlets, low-voltage, LED drivers and fixture wiring: a licensed electrician, under their own permit.
- A gas fireplace, its line and its venting: a licensed gas fitter.
- Removing or changing a load-bearing wall or beam: referred to a licensed contractor with an engineer's detail.

From the first message to the last touch-up.
- 01
Walk the wall or ceiling
We measure, check what is behind the surface and talk through the TV, fireplace, niches and lighting you have in mind.
- 02
Written scope
Sizes, materials, finish level, lighting and paint go on a line-item quote, with who does each part and a target finish date.
- 03
Frame and rough-in
The frame goes up square. A licensed electrician runs power, low-voltage and LED wiring before anything is closed in.
- 04
Board, tape and finish
Drywall goes on, corners are set and the field is finished to the level on the quote, Level 5 where light rakes it.
- 05
Prime, paint and walk it
Primer and paint, or a prime-ready handoff. We check the lines in the room’s real light with you and close the punch list.
- Timeline
- A single media or fireplace wall is often several working days spread over one to two weeks, because mud and paint need dry time and the electrician works in between. Ceilings with steps or channels take longer. Typical durations, not promises.
- Permits
- The electrical work is permitted by the licensed electrician who does it. A building permit for the framing depends on the city and the scope; we check it for your address and list it on the quote.
- Cost
- Priced per wall or ceiling after the walkthrough: the size, niches and steps, the finish level, the lighting and what the electrician has to run.

Before and after, from the same spot.
Drag the handle to compare. Each pair was shot from the same position before and after the work, so the only thing that changes is what we rebuilt.

Fireplace wall
A two-story fireplace wall taken from bare framing to large-format panels set flush, with even seams top to bottom and the ceiling line kept unbroken.

In progressVaulted great room

Feature Walls & Custom Ceilings, answered.
Can you build a TV wall with a recessed niche?
Yes. We frame the wall out so the TV sits in a recessed niche or flush with the face of the wall, add niches for a soundbar or display, and finish it smooth. The outlets and low-voltage behind the TV are installed by a licensed electrician before the board closes.
Can you build an electric fireplace into a media wall?
Yes. We frame the opening to the insert maker’s specifications and finish the wall around it. A licensed electrician runs the circuit the unit needs. A gas fireplace goes to a licensed gas fitter.
Do you build tray and coffered ceilings?
Yes. We frame and drywall tray steps, coffers and cove channels, set the corners square and finish the field so the light reads clean. The lighting is wired by a licensed electrician.
How much does a media wall or a custom ceiling cost?
It depends on the size, the niches or steps, the finish level, the lighting and the TV or fireplace hardware. We price it per wall or ceiling after a free walkthrough, and the written quote lists every part.
Do I need a permit?
The electrical part is permitted by the licensed electrician who does it. Whether your city also wants a building permit for the framing depends on the scope, so we check it for your address at the walkthrough and list it on the quote.
