Nail pops, hairline cracks, and flashing patches are the job on Wasatch Front walls. If a room needs more than paint, that repair is a line item, not a surprise on day two.
Rooms, surfaces, coats
The quote says which rooms, whether ceilings and trim are in, and how many coats. A dark-to-light change is called out because it needs extra film, not optimism.
The house stays livable
Floors and furniture in the work area are covered. We work room by room so the rest of the house can function. We do not need the home empty unless you prefer it.
Interior means interior
Siding, stucco, and fascia are a different exposure and a different scope. We will not fold them into an interior quote to win the visit.
Where the number comes from.
- Wall and ceiling condition going in — nail pops, cracks, old patches, and texture repair add prep hours before any paint goes on
- Ceiling height and vaulted/two-story walls that need extra staging and reach, which slows cutting in and rolling
- Number of distinct colors and accent walls — each color means separate cut lines, masking, and dry time
- Dark-to-light (or light-to-dark) color changes that require extra coats and often a tinted primer to fully cover
- Trim, doors, and built-ins count — baseboards, casings, and doors are slow, detail-heavy work priced apart from wall area
- Sheen and product choice — washable, higher-sheen, or low-VOC finishes change material cost and how prep shows

Some of this work needs its own license. We say which parts at the walkthrough and line those trades up:
- Drywall hung over load-bearing or structural changes — we paint finished surfaces, not framing alterations
- Lead-paint abatement in older homes — testing and removal go to a certified lead professional
- Exterior siding, stucco, and weather-exposed surfaces — our scope is interior walls, ceilings, and trim
- Cabinet refinishing or spray lacquer booths and large specialty epoxy floor coatings — referred to a dedicated finisher
- Moisture or mold behind walls — the water source must be fixed by the right trade before we prime and paint

Walk the rooms
We count surfaces, check wall condition, ceiling height, and color change. Repairs that are drywall rather than paint are listed separately.

Written room list
You approve rooms, sheen, coat count, and repairs. Colors are confirmed before we order. Work does not start on a verbal palette.

Protect and prep
Floors, fixtures, and built-ins are covered. We patch, sand, and prime so the finish coat has a uniform ground.

Coat and cut
Finish coats go on in the order the room needs — usually ceilings, then walls, then trim. Dry time between coats is part of the schedule.

Walk in daylight
We check holidays, cut lines, and flashing patches with you and close the leftovers.
- Timeline
- A single room is often one to two days of on-site work plus dry time. A main floor or whole interior takes longer, especially with ceilings, trim, and heavy prep. Vaulted walls slow cut-in. Those are typical durations, not a race clock.
- Permits
- Interior painting of existing finished rooms is finish work and typically does not need a building permit under the exemptions Wasatch Front cities publish. If the paint is the last step of a basement finish or a remodel that already needs a permit, the permit belongs to that project, not to the paint by itself.

Do you paint interiors only?
Yes. Wasatch Finish paints interior walls, ceilings, trim, and interior doors. Weather-exposed siding and stucco are referred to a licensed painter who does that work.
How much does interior painting cost in Utah?
Plan around $2–$5 per square foot on our board, with 2026 Utah market write-ups at about $2–$6. Prep, ceilings, trim, and color change move the number. A written room list after a walkthrough is the price.
Do you repair drywall before you paint?
Yes. Patching nail pops, cracks, and small holes is part of prep and is listed on the quote. Larger drywall replacement is a drywall scope, then paint.
Do you paint whole homes or single rooms?
Both. The quote is a list of rooms and surfaces, whether that is one bedroom or an entire interior. We do not sell an unnamed 'whole house' lump.
How long does interior painting take?
A single room is often one to two days plus dry time. A full interior takes longer when ceilings, trim, and prep are in. Vaulted walls add time. The quote gives the window for your rooms.
Do I need a permit to paint interior rooms?
Usually no. Interior paint on existing finished rooms is finish work. If the paint closes a permitted basement finish, the permit is already part of that project.
Can you paint interior doors and trim with the walls?
Yes, when they are listed. Trim and doors are slower than walls and are priced as surfaces, not thrown in. Interior doors only.
What paint sheen do you recommend for a Wasatch Front basement?
A washable eggshell or similar on walls is a common choice for lower-level traffic; trim is usually a higher sheen. We confirm product and sheen on the room list rather than locking a brand in copy.
